Gary V. Koyen
Gary Koyen has over forty years of experience as a consultant and educator,
and has designed and delivered some of the highest quality programs for corporate transformation in the world. Gary is an experienced international consultant, having worked with leaders and companies in America, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Japan. He brings a unique blend of attention to both the rigorous and soft sides of business.
Gary is a creative and provocative consultant, valued by CEOs and senior leaders for his insight, candor, and courage. His clients have included various divisions of AT&T (including Bell Laboratories), Duke Power Company (now Duke Energy), Chase-Manhattan Bank (now JP Morgan-Chase), Livermore Labs, PRD of Australia, Idaho National Energy Lab, Greyhound, Turner Broadcasting, Cox Communications, MCI, American Express-Asia, AGL Resources Inc., Prudential Insurance of America, Cisco Systems, Delta Air Lines, Safeco Insurance and numerous smaller companies.
Gary attended the University of Nebraska, where he was granted his Ph.D. in learning and research psychology in 1976. In addition to his extensive study of psychology, he has a strong quantitative background in hard sciences, advanced math, logic, statistics, and research design. Earlier in his career, Gary was a Professor in Management and Administration at the University of Oregon, where he taught courses in management, research methods, and organizational diagnosis and development. He brings an unusual blend of hard and soft skills to his consulting and training work.*
Gary was born at Fremont, Nebraska, and grew up on a farm east of Fremont. He is an avid outdoorsman and athlete, having pursued as hobbies camping, hiking, scuba, rock-climbing, whitewater rafting, mountaineering, mountain biking, skiing, hunting, fishing, snowshoeing, running, and other athletic activities. He has helped successfully raise his children, has an ever-increasing number of grandchildren, and lives with his wife and business partner, Becca O’Connor, in Boulder, Colorado.
